Priscilla: Queen of the Desert
Ogunquit & Gateway Playhouse

What an incredible adventure it was for my co-designer, Jason M. Curtis, and me! The bus arrived a little late at the theatre, but it turned out to be just in time for our very first preview. While the technical team was busy figuring out how to automate the bus's turnaround, Jason and I jumped on board, shaking our groove thing and quickly decorating the interior of the bus with props and set dressing in just 20 minutes!!
We truly wanted to give the bus a personality that reflected the spirit of Tick, Bernadette, and Adam—a fabulous trio from Sydney. They embark on a journey to take their show all the way to the Australian outback in search of love and friendship, only to find so much more than they ever dreamt possible! With an array of classic disco hits, such as "It's Raining Men," "I Will Survive," "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun," "Boogie Wonderland," "I Like The Nightlife," and "Hot Stuff," the show is designed to uplift and get everyone dancing in the aisles!!
In that first photo, you'll see the Director, David Ruttura, I, Artistic Director, Bradford Kenny from Ogunquit Playhouse, and Executive Artistic Director, Paul Allen from The Gateway. We were all gathered, eagerly discussing the many scenes I had sketched for the show, which were displayed in my New York City studio.
Enjoy the sketches, color renderings, paint elevations, photos, and video from this fabulous musical!
