Disney's Beauty and the Beast
2010 U.S. National Tour
2022 Japan Production

NetWorks Tours approached DTG to create a non-equity, three-truck tour (utilizing three trucks for all aspects, including merchandise) for Disney's "Beauty and the Beast." The only request from management was to maintain the castle in its classic blue and gold tones. Additionally, all of the backdrops, drapery, and cut drops needed to be designed to fit into hampers.
We conducted a final presentation for Tom Schmucher and the Producers from NetWorks in my apartment in New York City. When we arrived at Be Our Guest, Matt West and my associate, Christine Peters, served pink champagne to the group, which numbered over 30 people. I'm still amazed at how we all fit in there.
Later, this version of the show became an international tour. Then, for China, we utilized the existing town buildings and drops, enhancing the set with larger castle platforms, the West Wing, dimensional drapery, and automation.
Shiki Theater Company, in Japan, purchased the show, which was staged in the Murihama Amphitheater, located adjacent to Tokyo DisneySea. This theater was initially built for Cirque du Soleil and features a massive thrust. Matt West and I collaborated to adapt the show by opening up the scenery for better sight-lines, and many scenes were staged down on the thrust. The show is so big it looks like Opera and it is a huge success, still playing today!
Enjoy the myriad of images showcasing my sketches, color renderings, models, construction drawings, scenery development in the shops, and, of course, the production photos.
